It seems ironic that someone who hates shaving should get into a business importing shaving products.

But therein lies the tale.

Because shaving was always so uncomfortable for him, Jon Bresler tried, with varying degrees of disappointment, every shaving cream, foam, soap and gel he could get his hands on. Fortunately for him, for us and, we hope, for you, he finally came across Musgo Real, made in, not England or Germany, but in Portugal. Not only had he, at last, discovered a superior shaving cream but was so enthusiastic that he abandoned the legal profession to form a company (”Lafco”) to import and distribute the Achilles Brito Co. products (which include the “Musgo Real” line of shaving products) in the United States. History, Ingredients and Production Methods

Portugal 1887

These highly recommended men’s products, particularly the shaving cream, are produced by Achilles Brito in Porto, Portugal. While “Musgo Real” means “royal musk”, there is no musk in any of the products. The fragrance is Hayflower, the smell of fresh-cut hay.

Shaving Cream

Musgo Real Shaving Cream (”Creme Para Barbear”) has been made since the 1920s by Claus & Schweder (established in 1887 and now owned by Acilles Brito) using an exclusive formula with coconut oil and glycerin which acts to soften and moisturize the beard and reduce surface tension. Because of the moisturizers in Musgo, your face will not have that “dried out” feeling one has after using shaving foam from a can or some shaving soaps. While Musgo Real can be used as a brushless cream, application and lathering with a brush will achieve far better results. When using Musgo, your blade will not become clogged and you’ll find that blades last longer.

· It is difficult to estimate how long a tube will last. A guess would be that shaving once a day and not being stingy with the lather, a tube should last about a month and a half. Some customers claim a year for a tube. Not good news for the shaving business. To achieve the proper blending and consistency during manufacturing, the cream is stirred in an open kettle for two days with each kettle yielding just 300 tubes of shaving cream — hardly what one would call mass production. Since no preservative is added, the tubes are sealed and must be pierced using the spike in the cap. The tubes are pretty sturdy but we suggest care when traveling - one suggestion is to squeeze the amount you need for a trip into a travel jar - available on our site. Glycerin Soap with Lime Oil

A clear, round, glycerin-based soap for cleaning the face before saving. Contains natural lime oil to refresh the face, castor oil to soak and soften whiskers before shaving, and a trace of alcohol to thoroughly remove any dirt restricting razor glide. High coconut content and strong lime fragrance. Still handmade in wooden frames from the turn of the century.

Men’s Bath Soap

Generous amounts of coconut oil make this bath-size soap especially mild and creamy. No preservatives. Hayflower fragrance.

Cologne Aftershave Splash

Our most popular aftershave/cologne. A blend dating back to 1887 of spicy woodland tones of Patchouli and Vetiver with the floral notes of Lavender and Geranium. Contains glycerin for moisturizing and allantoine which acts as a mild antiseptic. For ease of application, make a small hole in the plastic stopper . It will last much longer than when using a spray.

Aftershave Balsam

With its ultra soothing and healing combination of ingredients, this is the perfect after shave balsam for sensitive or irritated skin. Almond and Jojoba oils act like a treatment for dry and damaged skin, while shea butter and marshmallow soothe and protect. Echinacea stimulates the skins own healing process while 100% natural beeswax forms a micro thin shield to protect skin from the elements. After shaving, apply a thin layer to the face where shaving has just taken place. May be used as a pre-shave lotion: Apply liberally to clean, dry skin before applying shave cream.

Pre Shave Oil

This pre-shave oil protects, soothes, and refreshes, eliminated unsightly rashes and irritations (razor burn). Use alone or under Musgo shave cream for the perfect shave. Ideal for sensitive skin. Spread a thin layer evenly on just washed skin before shaving.

Shampoo Shower Gel

Enriched with wheat proteins and coconut extracts, this no fuss shower gel / shampoo is easy to use, thoroughly cleanses your skin, and leaves hair soft and manageable (no conditioner is needed). Body Cream

This body cream with its glycerin, olive and almond oil extracts and shea butter formula, spreads on easily, restoring moisture and smoothness to dry, overworked skin. Great as a hand cream. Apply a small amount to the palm of your hand then rub hands together briefly. Spread all over the body, especially tight, dry skin areas. Musgo Classic vetyver and patchouli scent.

Agua di Cologne #1 Orange Amber

Fragrance: Sensual and soothing, the amber fragrance has been shown to enhance heart energy and increase romantic feelings. During his second voyage, Columbus is credited for bringing Orange seed to the New World in 1493. Both are combined for a sultry yet fresh scent.

Agua di Cologne #2 Oak Moss

Fragrance: Woodsy oak moss is combined with a hint of green leaves and freshly mown hay for an outdoor scent that is fresh and masculine.

Agua di Cologne #3 Spiced Citrus

Fragrance: Wood spices, coriander and verbena mix with Lime and incense for a scent that is strong and original.
